NSW: Three sentenced over Edward Lee murder

SYDNEY, Dec 18 AAP - Three men including triple murderer Michael Kanaan, who helpedthe killer of schoolboy Edward Lee concoct an elaborate alibi, have been sentenced inthe NSW Supreme Court.

Notorious underworld figure, Kaanan, 27, was given a three-year-four-month term whilehis friend Mohamed Dib, 24, was jailed for the same term, but received six months lessfor his minimum sentence.

The third man, Narwas Refai, 28, walked free after being handed a suspended sentenceof two years.

Dib's brother Moustapha, 19, has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of 14-year-oldEdward during a fight between Asian and Lebanese boys on October 17, 1998, at Punchbowl'sTelopea Street, in Sydney's south-west.

Lee was stabbed to death while on his way to a party in Telopea Street.

Kanaan, Mohamed Dib and Refai, pleaded guilty to being accessories after the fact ofmalicious wounding.

The court was told the three helped concoct a false alibi for the younger Dib whichinvolved the two brothers and Refai driving to Queensland shortly after the killing.
